I wish to extend condolences to Dr Emelda and the entire Clarke family on the passing of Dr Desmond Clarke. I pray that God will comfort and strengthen you during this time. I am eternally grateful to Dr Clarke, who as my supervisor at UWI, persevered with me over the years to ensure that I completed my Masters. I shall always remember his witty and down-to-earth comments, especially during class discussions. May he rest in peace.

It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of the inimitable Dr. Desmond Clarke. I had come to know, admire and respect him as a consummate life-long learner and who was indeed also an inspiration to many during his sojourn among us.

I was first introduced to Dr. Clarke about the period of the late eighties (1987 et seq) when on behalf of the UWI he visited St. Kitts and Nevis in connection with the training and mentoring of individuals pursuing teacher education. Having had the opportunity to engage with him then and again in the ensuing years, I vividly recall reflecting that his humility belied his vast intellect and I was personally awed by his scholarly disposition and acumen in the areas of his own academic pursuits.

To his loving wife Verdensia Emelda and all close relatives, your personal loss will be a difficult one to bear as you cherish the memories of the quality time shared with this gentle giant. May God grant you the fortitude to endure the grief that you share and to heal with the passage of time…and may the soul of the dearly departed rest in eternal peace and rise in glory.
